Nailing Your Morning Routine

How your morning routine can set you up for success.

What you choose to feed you body and mind first thing can completely alter the course of your day.

Take any highly successful individual and they'll have a morning routine that sets them up for daily success.

Oprah Winfrey meditates for 20 minutes daily.

Tim Ferris starts with making his bed for an early win.

Richard Branson swims in the sea, plays tennis and spends time with family (from 5am).

Steve Jobs looks himself in the mirror and asks, 'if today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?'.

You can pretty much guarantee they don't hit snooze, scroll social media and eat Coco Pops from the box.

They all work on themselves first.

If you have health and fitness goals, nailing your morning routine is super important. Those first few decisions have a huge impact of the rest of your day and you want kick off to leave you feeling healthy and energised. A good morning routine promotes a healthy mindset and prepares you for your day. Whilst you may not have the luxury of a private island, home tennis court or 20 minutes to sit in meditation, you probably do have time for some deep breathing, a large glass of water and a nutritious breakfast.

Perhaps easier said than done with a baby (or any small child) so if you child is your alarm clock (then requires constant attention until they’re asleep again), you have three options:

  • Get up before your baby (unless you naturally wake early or don’t like sleep, this sounds like a terrible idea on broken sleep but each to their own)

  • Delay your morning routine until their first nap, then give yourself time to do something that feels good (coffee, workout, yoga, journal, music, meditate....)

  • Create a routine that works for your life right now (a playlist that inspires you, some slow deep breaths and a mental gratitude list should take you no extra time at all). Efficiency is key.

Whatever it is, with however much time you can spare, do something that makes you feel positive and energised for the rest of the day.

You'll be be more likely to hit your goals.

It'll set you up for the BEST day.
